The Art of Diagnosis

"Loose your minds and come to your senses" J.R. Worsley

Let's start by looking at the Chinese "Law of Mother-Child".   This law explains that if we walk into a room and there is a screaming child, in the long term is better to treat the mother who can sooth the child, instead of just treating the child who may become upset again quickly.

This can be the same for the people who we treat.  A person can come to see us with a myriad of complaints that are all screaming loudly.  Like a screaming child these symptoms may distract us from the underlying cause of the persons distress.

Even though we may do what we can to relieve a person's immediate distress we can fall into the trap of chasing symptoms as they appear, never finding the cause of any of them.

Using the Five Elements we can learn to distinguish between symptoms (e.g. head aches, poor sleep, anxiety, etc.) and signs  - Colour, Sound, Odour and Emotion. This is the Art of Diagnosis; to look, to listen, to hear and to feel.

By learning to treat at the level of the Constitutional Element we support the whole person to grow and change, empowering them to be all they can be and not need to express their imbalance through physical symptoms.
